GESTURE SYNTH · PRIVACY
Privacy Policy
Last updated October 18, 2026
Gesture Synth is a musical instrument created by Eric Wei that uses hand tracking to let people explore music through gestures. This policy explains how information is handled across the official Gesture Synth website, browser-based instrument, and iOS app.
What this policy covers
This policy applies to the following official properties and services operated by Eric Wei:
- indecisiveeric.com and pages hosted on that domain, including this policy.
- indecisiveeric.com/gesture-synth and its browser-based instrument.
- gesture-synth-weld.vercel.app, the official browser deployment.
- The Gesture Synth iOS app distributed by Eric Wei.
This policy does not govern independently operated websites, apps, or services, even if they use similar names, designs, or concepts. For example, GestureSynth.com and Gesture.live are outside the scope of this policy. Their operators are responsible for explaining their own privacy practices.
A similar name does not necessarily indicate a relationship with Eric Wei or this project.
01 · WEBSITE
The personal website
The official website provides information about Eric Wei and Gesture Synth. Like many websites, it uses analytics and interaction measurement tools to understand how visitors use the site and to identify opportunities for improvement.
Analytics services
The website uses the following services:
- Google Analytics 4 to measure website traffic and usage patterns.
- Microsoft Clarity to understand interactions through features such as session recordings and interaction analytics.
- Vercel Analytics to measure website traffic and performance-related usage information.
Depending on the service and its configuration, these providers may process information such as page visits, navigation, clicks, browser and device details, approximate location, referring pages, and interaction events. Session recordings may capture how you interact with page elements.
These tools are provided by third parties and may process information under their own privacy terms. Their collection, storage, and retention practices can change independently of this policy.
02 · BROWSER APP
Gesture Synth in your browser
The browser instrument uses your device's camera to detect hand movements and translate them into musical controls. Camera access is requested through your browser.
Camera and hand tracking
Hand tracking is processed locally in your browser. The application code reviewed for this policy does not intentionally send camera footage to Eric Wei's servers for hand tracking. The app may download software, machine-learning models, and other resources needed to run.
The browser app does not need microphone access for its core hand-tracking and instrument features.
Usage analytics
Microsoft Clarity is used on the browser app to measure interactions and understand how people use its features. This may include page activity, clicks, navigation, and custom events related to using the instrument and its tutorial.
Session recording settings can affect what is captured or masked. The camera area has appeared masked in recordings reviewed during development, but this observation is not a guarantee that all information is always masked under every configuration.
The browser app's hand-tracking process and third-party analytics are separate: local hand tracking does not mean that no information about website usage is processed by external providers.
03 · IOS APP
Gesture Synth for iOS
Camera and hand tracking
The iOS app uses the camera to track hand movements. The hand-tracking process is designed to run on your device. Camera access is required for this feature.
Optional performance recordings
If you choose to record a performance, the app can request microphone access and combine microphone audio with a visual representation of your performance. The recording feature is intended to save the resulting video to your device's Photos library.
In the iOS recording flow reviewed for this policy, the recording is created on the device and passed to the Photos saving functionality. The reviewed code does not intentionally upload these recordings to Eric Wei's servers.
Recordings may contain your voice and other sounds picked up by the microphone. You are responsible for deciding when to record and for managing or deleting saved recordings.
Permissions
You can manage camera, microphone, and Photos permissions in iOS settings. If you deny a permission, the feature that depends on it may not work. You can delete saved recordings through Photos.
Third-party services
The iOS app uses platform functionality and software components to provide its features. The source code reviewed for this policy did not show an initialization of the website's Google Analytics or Microsoft Clarity tools in the main app files. This is a description of the reviewed code, not a guarantee about every service provided by Apple, the operating system, or third-party dependencies.
